Description
Beatty is a small wilderness lake in
the Loon River drainage, 9¾ miles ENE of Crane Lake and ¾
mile ENE of the portage with which it shares its name. It sits perched
high in the hills between the north ends of Loon
and Little Loon, 125' above these larger lakes.
It is drained by Beatty Creek, a distinctly non-navigable watercourse, which
loses 50' of elevation in the first 100 yards below the lake before meandering
southward to empty into Loon.
This region escaped damage in the 4th of July windstorms of 1999, which
caused extensive tree loss to the south and east.
Campsites
Beatty is not on any maintained route
and supports no established campsites.
Planning Considerations
Beatty is likely little visited but would
make for an interesting day trip from one of the nearby campsites on Loon
or Little Loon. Probably best done hiking
overland with compass, though, rather than hauling a canoe up the little
creek.

Notes and Comments
If you do get in to Beatty send us a photo.
We'll publish it here. (It's the only way most BWCA paddlers will
ever get to see this lake.)
