Description
Snipe is a deep, sprawling, multi-armed
lake in the Cross River watershed, just south of the BWCAW boundary and
the Gunflint Trail. Its 112 acres reach out in three directions, southwest,
northwest to the 150 rod portage into Missing
Link, and east to the 80 rod portage down to Cross
Bay. A 100 rod portage south connects with Copper,
on the way to Tuscarora. Though up to 90' deep,
most of the lake has a depth of less than 15'.
Campsites
Snipe supports four established campsites,
one on the southern shore of the central bay and one each in the three arms
of the lake, that in the southwestern arm on an island.
Planning Considerations
Snipe, along with its neighbor Missing
Link, provides a connection between the two popular entry points at
Round Lake and Ham.
They also provide the access to Tuscarora from
the east.
Wildlife
Lake Trout were stocked in Snipe in 1993.
