The graves of servicemen are noted in blue. |
| Fairview Cemetery was established in 1913 on the southeast corner of S10, T17, R41 on land donated for that purpose by E.M. Collins. The first burial was Jennie Copley Hopkins who died in the flue epidemic of that year. Also in 1913, a frame building was built on land adjacent to the cemetery which served as a community gathering place hosting church services and Sunday school, dances and entertainment, as well as the meetings of the local Woodmen of the World lodge. The building was later moved to a more centrally located site where it became an elementary school. It was replaced at the cemetery by a sod house which continued to be used as church and Sunday School - a rare example of a sod structure succeding a frame building. The first minister was a Rev. Elkins. The people of the area were all Kincaiders and after proving up their lands most sold and moved on leaving a thinly spread population behind. |
